We are a small animal practice in Devon, first established in 1920. We are passionate about animal care and our skilled team of veterinarians and vet nurses are dedicated to providing the highest quality care for your animals to ensure they are kept fit and healthy throughout their lives. We treat your animals as if they were our own. We are open six days a week and provide our own 24/7 on site emergency care giving great continuity of care for our patients.
In all but exceptional circumstances, the welfare and clinical needs of veterinary emergency cases are best served by the animal attending the emergency clinic.
If transport options are not possible (including from family, friends and neighbours) then below are some local taxi / pet ambulance options:
Tavistock Area:
Anytime Taxis Tavistock: Tavistock based taxi service. Able to provide animal transport to Plymouth.
When our practice is closed, you can call MiNightVet for free advice on whether your pet needs to be seen, just call: 01752 754900
If they advise that your pet should be seen, they will ask you to bring them down to the Plymouth surgery and can advise you on how to safely do so.
Can the vet come to my house to see my pet?
As is the case for human emergencies, the best place for your pet to receive emergency treatment is in a veterinary hospital; where the team can access the full range of drugs and equipment that they need to give them the best chance of making a full recovery. Bringing your pet to the surgery will allow the vet to start effective treatment much more quickly and you will be expected to transport your pet to the MiNightVet clinic in all but exceptional circumstances.
In the rare instance where your pet is unable to be safely moved, the MiNightVet team will arrange a house visit for you, but as might be expected this can lead to delays in treatment, incurs additional costs and (most importantly) only allows the team to provide a very limited range of treatment options. It is also highly likely that your pet will still need to be transported to the clinic for follow up treatment.
How will Westmoor know what treatment my pet received at MiNightVet?
The MiNightVet team provide us with a full clinical report on the treatment provided to any cases that they see on our behalf, and this includes the sharing of any diagnostic test results/x-rays.
What happens if my pet needs to stay in for treatment?
If your pet needs to stay with the MiNightVet team they will keep you fully informed of your pet’s progress and you will be updated on the cost of treatment being received.
Where your pet is well enough they will make arrangements to discharge them the following morning for ongoing treatment with us at Westmoor. We may be able to assist transferring your pet from Plymouth to either our practice in Tavistock or your home – please call us to enquire.
Will I need to pay for treatment immediately?
Like us, the MiNightVet expect payment at the time of treatment – as this is the only way that they can run a successful practice and be there for you in times of emergency. Healthy Pet Club members receive their usual 10% discount off the cost of treatment – don’t forget to mention your HPC membership on arrival so that your discount can be deducted.
Your pet’s welfare will always take priority and if you are concerned about any financial difficulty, you should discuss this with the MiNightVet team, who will work with you to devise an appropriate treatment plan for your pet.
Will my pet insurance cover the cost of treatment?
As every pet insurance policy varies, it is not possible for us to say for certain that your pet’s treatment will be covered by pet insurance. However, the majority of insurance companies will provide cover for emergency treatment received at the surgery. (Our advice it to check what is covered under your pets insurance BEFORE an emergency occurs)
